Description

Originated from China’s Fujian province in the 17th century, glove puppet performances are most commonly seen in Taiwan. The puppet’s head, palms, and feet are carved from wood while its torso and limbs are sewn from cloth as part of the costume. The glove puppet is controlled by inserting the hand into the glove, with the index finger controlling the puppet’s head while the rest of the fingers are positioned below the head to control the puppet’s movements. The puppeteer is hidden behind the stage set and manipulates the puppet on the stage with only his or her arms exposed.
